How To Use the Scriptures

Lehi's Dream is one of my Favorite parts in the Book of Mormon!

I know using the Iron Rod (the Word of God) to hold to our path back home to our Heavenly Father will bring us peace and courage in the midst of any trial.  Ask yourself how these people had to use the iron rod to get to the tree.  If we do the same things with the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon, we can get through anything.  This is because "the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance." (1 Ne. 1:20)

  • We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost. (See Moroni 10:3–5.)
  •  Those who gain this divine witness from the Holy Spirit will also come to know by the same power that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that Joseph Smith is his revelator and prophet in these last days, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord’s kingdom once again established on the earth, preparatory to the second coming of the Messiah. String Fingers

So this morning I picked up some weights in our apartment.  I tried doing some curls and it was a lot easier than it had been in the past!  I was way excited, and kept pumping away.  Suddenly the weights on one end slipped off and crashed to the wood floor... this was at 6:30am... on the second floor.  I suddenly remembered the first time I tried lifting these weights a while back when the same thing had happened!  I wish I had remembered, it had just been so long.

I think there's a lesson to be learned from this.  Learn from our mistakes and never forget what we learned.  That is progress.
  •  39 O, my beloved brethren, remember the awfulness in transgressing against that Holy God, and also the awfulness of yielding to the enticings of that cunning one. Remember, to be carnally-minded is death, and to be spiritually-minded is life eternal.
  • 40 O, my beloved brethren, give ear to my words. Remember the greatness of the Holy One of Israel.

Gospel Sauce Packets

I struggle with the little packets of sauce that every fast food restaurant has... It never ends well for me.  Do you ever pull down no those little ceraded ends and get sauce bursting forth upon you?  I do.  Sometimes I just use the already opened packets that my companions have cracked so I don't have to worry.  It's a lot easier that way, but I don't get as much ketchup on my burger.

Hunt's Tomato Ketchup Packets - Case of 1000"Scriptures are like packets of light that illuminate our minds and give place to guidance and inspiration from on high. They can become the key to open the channel to communion with our Father in Heaven and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ." (Richard G. Scott)

As we search the scriptures we can have light burst forth upon us!  Lets crack them open more often, and not only rely on what others have read from them.  This way we will have more guidance and inspiration for our lives.

On the Edge

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall...
What was he doing there?!

I can only assume that dear old Humpty thought he would have more fun if he could be playing on the wall.  He probably thought so much about all the sites he could see, and fun he could have that he forgot the eternal perspective.  I forget sometimes too.  Sometimes I feel like having ice cream for dinner... and then I do.  Not thinking ahead opens the way for problems.  If only Mr. Dumpty would have thought about how fragile he was, and how putting his shell so far above the ground opened the way for a major spoiling.

Let's learn from his experience and try to remember what will be important for eternity.  Like our families, friends, neighbors, and especially our Father in Heaven.  Real joy and happiness lies in putting these first.  I'm sure H.D. would agree.  I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and will save us from our falls.  We just need to stop scrambing up walls.
